Event Details

Hi. I'm Steve, the founder of LearnAsOne.

On 9 August I turn 30. Rather than asking for gifts I've decided to donate my birthday and walk 42km to raise funds for Simakakata Community School in Zambia.

The route is Windsor to Henley along the Thames. I'd be delighted if joined me on the walk and set up a fundraising page on JustGiving to raise money for the school too. You can also join me in Marlow for the final 14km if you prefer. The details are as follows:

42km route (Kingston to Tower Bridge)

Date: Saturday 13th August (the weekend after my birthday)

Distance: 42km (26 miles / a marathon)

Start time: 10am (Meet at 9.55am at Kingston Railway Station. We'll leave as soon as the Waterloo train arrives.)

Start point: Kingston Turks Pier, KT1 1PX

Finish: Tower Bridge (about 8pm)

Getting to the start: This is an A-B route so your best bet is to come by train. Kingston Rail and Hampton Wick Rail are both 10 minutes walk from the start.

Getting home after the event: We hope to finish walking by 8pm. London Bridge tube is within half a mile of the finish. There are also a few pubs in the area and we plan to visit one or a few celebratory beers before heading home.

Questions: Please email me steve at learnasone dot org and I'll be happy to help.

14km route (Battersea Park toTower Bridge)

As above except...

Distance: 14km

Start time: 5pm (Meet at 4.50pm latest. We will not wait after 5pm )

Start point: Battersea Park, Gate in the NE Corner (exact location tbc.)

How to sign up: A simple 2 step process

1. 'Buy' a ticket to sign up (above). Tickets are free.

2. Click here to set up a fundraising page on Just Giving and then ask people to sponsor you.

What to bring on the day

I'll send round an email nearer the day with full details, but the basics are as follows.

  • Bring water and snacks
  • Money to buy food and drinks along the way (there is no entry fee to cover this)
  • Waterproofs and good walking shoes

Thanks. See you on the 13th!
